Community Service At Loughlin

As Campus Minister, I would like to welcome you to Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. Your teenager has chosen to attend one of the finest high schools in the country. Bishop Loughlin will provide your teen with opportunities to be successful academically, socially, and spiritually, along with the support that every teen needs to deal with the many challenges that will arise throughout their high school years. I am proud to say that I work at Bishop Loughlin.

When current students and alumni are asked about their Loughlin experience, the most common word used is “family”. Today, I welcome you to our family. Here at 357 Clermont, we believe that family extends beyond our walls. As such, we require every freshman to dedicate a minimum of ten hours of their own time to complete community service. Students are asked to find their own community service site. They may volunteer at their church, their elementary or junior high school, a local nursing home, a soup kitchen, or any other facility that needs volunteers. The minimum commitment of ten hours can be spread throughout the course of the year.

In September, each student will be given a community service form to be completed and returned to me. Service is an important part of who we are at Loughlin, and we look forward to sharing this experience with you and your teenager. In the words of a true servant leader, Martin Luther King, Jr., “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

Once again, welcome to the Bishop Loughlin family! If you have any questions about our community service program, please feel free to call me at 718-857-2700 Ext. 2247. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mike Foley

Campus Minister
